A civic advocacy group, Prayer and Support for the Nigerian Armed Forces and Other Security Agencies, has expressed confidence in Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu and called for broader public backing of ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.

In a statement made available to The Media on Saturday, the group’s leader, Ambassador Mary Abayomi Fatile, made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where members held discussions with police leadership.

Fatile said the group believes in the capacity and track record of the Inspector-General to drive meaningful reforms that will strengthen public trust and improve policing standards nationwide.

“We are here not only to show support, but to underscore our confidence in the current Police leadership. Nigerians are hopeful, and we share that optimism for a more responsive and people-focused police institution,” she said.

Fatile said Disu’s professional background demonstrates strong leadership credentials, pointing to his impactful tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, where he was credited with enhancing operational efficiency and improving rapid response to crime.

She also highlighted his service in several strategic roles across the country, noting that he consistently exhibited discipline, innovation and a strong commitment to duty.

She said these experiences position the Inspector-General of Police to effectively spearhead reforms that emphasise integrity, enhanced training and stronger community engagement.

“We recognise the complexities of policing in today’s environment, but we are confident that with sustained effort and collaboration, the desired transformation will be achieved,” she said.

The group also emphasised the need for continued partnership between civil society and security institutions, noting that constructive engagement and shared responsibility are essential to strengthening national security.

In his response, Disu welcomed the group’s support and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force, aimed at enhancing service delivery, professionalism and public trust.

The visit underscores a growing spirit of collaboration between civic organisations and security agencies, as stakeholders work together toward a safer and more secure Nigeria.
