The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the successful conclusion of the collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.

In a statement issued by National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC said the exercise followed the suspension of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in the state on May 15, 2026, and the subsequent update of the voters’ register.

According to the Commission, the number of registered voters in Ekiti State rose from 987,647 in 2023 to 1,059,360 in 2026 following the register clean-up exercise.

INEC further disclosed that the number of collected PVCs increased from 958,052 in 2023, representing a 97.0 per cent collection rate, to 1,028,929 in 2026, representing 97.1 per cent of registered voters.

The Commission noted that the PVC collection deadline, initially fixed for June 11, 2026, was extended to June 14, 2026, following consultations with stakeholders in Ado-Ekiti.

INEC also revealed that 14,406 applications were received for the replacement of lost, damaged, or defaced PVCs in line with Section 18(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, and that all replacement cards were printed, with most already collected by applicants.

The electoral body explained that the option of a downloadable version of lost or damaged voter cards could not be deployed for the election due to incomplete technological infrastructure, adding that the feature would be introduced in future elections, including the Osun governorship poll in August 2026 and the 2027 general elections.

INEC commended traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society organisations, political parties, and the media for their support in encouraging voter participation and PVC collection.

The Commission added that all PVCs for eligible voters, including those who applied for transfers or replacements, were produced and made available ahead of the election.

It further stated that a detailed breakdown of PVC collection by local government area had been published on its website and social media platforms.

INEC urged voters who have collected their PVCs to turn out peacefully on election day and exercise their civic rights, assuring the people of Ekiti State of its commitment to delivering a free, fair, credible, and inclusive governorship election.
