The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced a major leadership restructuring following the dissolution of its third Directorate of State (DOS) administration by the group’s leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful disclosed that Kanu had formally dissolved the Chika Edoziem-led DOS and inaugurated a new leadership team, with United States-based Mazi Chris Nwaogu appointed as head of the fourth administration.

According to the statement, Nwaogu will immediately assume responsibility for the administration, coordination and day-to-day management of IPOB affairs under the authority and directives of Kanu.

The Directorate of State, established by Kanu in 2012 as the administrative arm of IPOB, has previously been headed by Dr. Justin Akujieze, Mazi Uchenna Asiegbu and Chika Edoziem.

Explaining the decision, IPOB said the dissolution followed an extensive review of the performance and stewardship of the outgoing administration during what it described as a critical period in the Biafra self-determination movement.

The group alleged that the Edoziem-led administration failed in several key responsibilities, including the welfare of detained members, protection of the movement’s integrity, safeguarding communication platforms and maintaining organizational cohesion.

According to the statement, one of the most significant concerns was the alleged neglect of IPOB members detained in various facilities, particularly those held for prolonged periods without trial.

The group also accused the outgoing leadership of allowing internal disputes, factional disagreements and personal rivalries to overshadow strategic priorities such as legal advocacy, diplomacy, public engagement and support for detained members.

IPOB further claimed that divisions within the movement deepened under the dissolved administration, leading to a decline in public confidence and weakening of critical communication channels.

The statement stressed that the decision was aimed at renewing the organization and repositioning it to address existing challenges more effectively.

“The dissolution of the third administration is not an act of vengeance but an act of organizational renewal aimed at restoring confidence, unity, accountability and strategic focus within the movement,” the statement said.

The newly inaugurated administration includes Mazi Solomon Egbo as Deputy Head of the Directorate of State, Nwada Ogwu Nnennaya Anya as Head of Finance and Budget Planning, Mazi Chigozie Okekenta as Coordinator of Coordinators, and Dr. Chukwudi Nwogwugwu as Head of Medical and Welfare Planning.

Other members include Barrister Ikechukwu Onuoha as Head of Media, Emma Powerful as Media and Publicity Secretary, and several continental representatives responsible for coordinating the group’s activities across Africa, Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East.

IPOB also announced that all previous suspensions and expulsions within the organization have been lifted, with affected members fully reinstated.

The group stated that the new administration would oversee its daily affairs in line with the vision and directives of Nnamdi Kanu while working to strengthen unity, improve organizational discipline and advance its objectives.
