KOGI POLYTECHNIC SUSPENDS SEVEN LECTURERS OVER ALLEGED MISCONDUCT

The management of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has suspended seven lecturers over allegations of misconduct, including the unauthorised sale of handouts and textbooks, as well as alleged sexual harassment.

The institution disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, John Onimisi.

According to the statement, six lecturers were suspended on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, for allegedly selling handouts and textbooks without authorisation, while another lecturer was suspended over an allegation of sexual harassment.

The suspensions come amid concerns over alleged incidents of sexual harassment, cult-related activities and other forms of misconduct within the institution.

Sources within the polytechnic alleged that some lecturers demanded sexual favours or money from female students in exchange for favourable grades, while reports also claimed that cult activities had resurfaced on campus.

A source further alleged that disciplinary measures introduced by the previous administration had weakened, creating an environment where some staff and students engaged in misconduct with little restraint.

The source also claimed that female students who reported cases of sexual harassment were allegedly intimidated rather than receiving adequate institutional support.

There were additional allegations that cult groups had resumed nocturnal meetings on campus despite earlier efforts to eliminate such activities.

Other claims included the alleged return of compulsory handout sales, a relaxation of the institution’s dress code and weaker enforcement of student identity card regulations, which sources said had contributed to declining discipline.

Responding to the allegations, Onimisi said the institution’s management had referred the matter to its disciplinary committee for investigation.

He assured that appropriate action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation and that the findings would be made public in due course.
