The Lagos State Government has unveiled a traffic diversion plan ahead of the Ajegunle City Youth Marathon scheduled for Saturday, December 13, 2025.

In a statement issued on Friday via the Ministry of Transportation’s official X handle, the government said the marathon organised by the Society for Information and Human Advancement will commence at 6am and will require partial closure of major roads in the Ajegunle axis to ensure safety and effective traffic management.

The affected routes include Maracana Stadium, Ojoku Street, Baale Road, Kirikiri Road, Wilmer Link Bridge, Okito Street, Kopariwo Street, Mba/Cardoso Street, Cemetery Street, Ojora Street, Oduduwa Street, Layinka Street, Bakare Faro Street, Adejiyan Street, Ishaga Street, Onishapa Street, Itire Street, Ojo Road, and Signal Barracks the finish point of the race.

The government said all junctions and intersections along the marathon route will be temporarily closed and managed by personnel from LASTMA, the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps. However, the junctions will be opened intermittently to allow controlled vehicular movement.

The advisory also listed alternative routes for motorists. These include:

From Berger/Apapa–Oshodi Expressway to Olodi Apapa via Kirikiri: Turn right into Industrial Road, link Idewu Street, proceed to Oluwa Street, connect Tolu Road, and link Baale Road.

From Suru-Alaba (Lagos–Badagry Expressway) to Gaskiya Road/Iganmu Road: A contra-flow will be used on Cemetery Road from Techn Oil to the roundabout.

From Suru-Alaba to Ojo Road: Turn left before Signal Barracks into Charles Avenue, link Ligali Street, proceed to Evie Street, connect Abeje Street, and continue to Ojo Road.

The state government assured residents that the diversions are structured to minimise disruption and urged motorists to cooperate with traffic officers and exercise patience during the event.

It also reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe and successful marathon for participants and the public.
