LAGOS, ONDO GOVERNORS JOIN AKOD TO HONOUR MOTHER CELESTIAL

The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), on Friday joined prominent Nigerians and dignitaries from across the country to pay their final respects to Mrs. Olasinmi Akindele Odunmbaku, the late wife of Cardinal (Dr.) James Odunmbaku, popularly known as Baba Eto, an apex leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC).

Mrs. Odunmbaku passed away on June 25, 2026.

AKOD described the deceased as a devoted Christian who dedicated her life to the service of God and humanity. He noted that she was a loving wife, caring mother and a pillar of support to her family and community, adding that her absence would be deeply felt by all who knew her.

Among the dignitaries present at the funeral service were the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu; the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa; the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Noimot Salako-Oyedele; the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa; AKOD; the Chairman of Ojodu LCDA, David Olusegun Odunmbaku; as well as several political leaders, religious figures and other distinguished guests.

The funeral service was held at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Lagos State Government House, Alausa, Ikeja.

Earlier, AKOD joined Muslim faithful for the Jumu’ah prayer at Ifelodun Central Mosque, Onipetesi, Ikeja, where he received prayers and commendations from the Muslim community.

Delivering his sermon, Alhaji AbdulRaheem Shittu, Chief Imam of the mosque, urged worshippers to place their trust in Almighty Allah in all their endeavours. He also praised AKOD’s performance in office, citing achievements in education, healthcare, infrastructure development and social intervention programmes targeted at improving the welfare of residents.

The Chief Imam noted that AKOD was the first Chairman of Ikeja Local Government to observe Jumu’ah prayer at the mosque and prayed for Allah’s continued guidance, wisdom and protection for the council chairman.

In his response, AKOD thanked Muslim faithful in Onipetesi and other parts of the local government for their support and prayers. He assured residents that his administration would continue to deliver more developmental projects and strengthen good governance across the council area.

He urged the people to remain patient and supportive, assuring them that more dividends of democracy would be delivered under his leadership.

Prayers were also offered for the peaceful repose of Mrs. Odunmbaku and for strength and comfort for the family she left behind.
