The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in close coordination with officers of the Nigeria Police Force, carried out a swift rescue and recovery operation following a fatal lone accident that occurred in the early hours of today along the busy Oshodi-Apapa Expressway at Charity Bus Stop, inward Iyana Isolo, Lagos.
Preliminary reports show that the Honda Pilot Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) involved in the crash suddenly lost control, somersaulted several times, and eventually came to a forceful stop. The impact resulted in the immediate death of the driver, whose body was trapped inside the badly damaged vehicle.

LASTMA officials, who were on traffic monitoring duty around the Iyana Isolo axis at the time, quickly responded to the emergency. Working alongside personnel from the Mosafejo Police Division, the officers demonstrated professionalism and courage as they carefully removed the deceased from the wreckage while also managing traffic flow to prevent further accidents.
After the operation, officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) evacuated the body to a public morgue in line with standard health and safety procedures.
The wrecked SUV was later handed over to the Mosafejo Police Division, which has already launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep sadness over the incident and extended condolences to the family of the deceased during this difficult period.
He also urged motorists to remain vigilant and responsible while driving, adhere to speed limits, and observe all traffic rules, especially during late-night and early-morning travel when visibility and alertness may be reduced.

According to Bakare-Oki, “Motorists are strongly advised to avoid reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, excessive speeding, and all forms of traffic violations that can lead to avoidable tragedies on our roads. The preservation of human life must remain a top priority. No journey is so urgent that it justifies compromising safety.”
