An OnlyFans model, Michaela Rylaarsdam, has been sentenced to four years imprisonment after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of a client during a paid BDSM session in California, United States.

Rylaarsdam, 32, received the sentence on Monday from a California court over the death of Michael Dale, 56, who died during an extreme fetish encounter at his home in Escondido on April 17, 2023.

According to court documents, Dale paid the content creator more than $11,000 for the session, which was filmed for material later intended for her OnlyFans platform.

Investigators revealed that Rylaarsdam, who promoted fetish-related services and described herself as non-judgmental, engaged in a series of acts that severely restricted Dale’s movement and breathing.

Prosecutors stated that she restrained his limbs, wrapped his body in plastic wrap “like a mummy,” sealed his eyes with Gorilla Glue, attached women’s boots to his feet using glue, duct-taped his mouth, and placed a plastic bag over his head, securing it with additional tape.

Authorities said Dale was unable to breathe properly for at least eight minutes and eventually became unresponsive.

Although Rylaarsdam later performed CPR and called emergency responders, Dale was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital.

Prosecutors noted that Dale had specifically requested to be wrapped like a mummy during the encounter. Deputy District Attorney David Jarman said the plastic bag remained over his head for approximately eight minutes, leading to fatal asphyxiation.

The content creator, who is also a mother of three, was arrested following an extensive investigation by the Escondido Police Department and was charged with second-degree murder in February 2025.

She initially pleaded not guilty but later entered into a plea agreement, admitting guilt to the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter in May 2026.

While handing down the sentence, San Diego Superior Court Judge Brad Weinreb stated that her conduct demonstrated a reckless disregard for human life, though there was no evidence suggesting she intended to kill Dale.

During the hearing, Rylaarsdam apologised to the victim’s family and accepted responsibility for what happened. She acknowledged that “I’m sorry” was not enough and expressed remorse in the presence of her husband and uncle, who attended the proceedings on behalf of her three young sons.

Following her arrest, she remained in custody at the Las Colinas Detention Facility and is expected to serve her four-year sentence at the San Bernardino County Jail.
