The Kano State Police Command has announced temporary movement restrictions in parts of the state ahead of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency bye-election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, both vehicular and pedestrian movement will be restricted within Dawakin Kudu and Warawa Local Government Areas during the election period.
The restriction forms part of security measures agreed upon during the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) meeting held on Wednesday.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed the implementation of a comprehensive security strategy designed to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process.
The police said security personnel, working alongside other ICCES partners, will be deployed across polling units, collation centres, and other strategic locations to safeguard voters, election officials, and electoral materials.
Under the directive, all movement within the affected local government areas will be prohibited between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on election day. However, essential service providers, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accredited election observers, and approved media personnel will be exempt from the restriction.
The command also warned against electoral offences, including violence, vote buying, ballot box snatching, and the spread of false information, stressing that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Electoral Act.
Residents were encouraged to remain law-abiding, comply with electoral guidelines, and promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies through designated emergency channels.
