SUSPECT NABBED WHILE ALLEGEDLY DELIVERING AMMUNITION TO BANDITS IN KANO

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man suspected of attempting to deliver ammunition and other materials to bandits operating in a forested area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the suspect, Mohammed Isah Haruna, a resident of Dan Dinshe Yamma Quarters in Dala Local Government Area, was apprehended on Saturday around 6 p.m. at Rimaye Village in Bichi Local Government Area.

Police said operatives attached to the Bichi Division acted on intelligence provided by a resident who reported seeing an individual dressed in what appeared to be military attire.

Working alongside members of the Rimawa community, officers intercepted the suspect and conducted a search of his bag.

Items recovered included an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 live rounds, 79 additional rounds of AK-47 ammunition, two sets of suspected military uniforms, three military caps, a suspected fake military identity card, a pair of desert boots, four ATM cards and several identification documents.

The police said the suspect admitted during questioning that he had been sent to deliver the recovered items to bandits hiding in the bush.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised residents of the Rimawa community for their swift action in alerting security operatives, noting that their cooperation played a key role in the successful operation.

He emphasised the importance of collaboration between communities and law enforcement agencies, describing security as a shared responsibility.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue to uncover and apprehend other members of the suspected criminal network.

The command said the case would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations and urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to aid efforts in combating crime across the state.
