UNILAG GRADUATES 3,136 STUDENTS FROM THREE FACULTIES

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Tuesday graduated 3,136 students from the Faculties of Education, Communication and Media Studies, and Social Sciences as part of its 2025 convocation ceremonies.

The event took place at the university’s main campus in Lagos.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, disclosed the figures in her welcome address to graduands, parents, and invited guests, noting that the convocation ceremonies would span three days.

According to her, UNILAG will confer degrees on a total of 16,506 graduands, including 10,584 first degree and diploma recipients, while 5,782 postgraduate degrees will be awarded across various disciplines. She added that 140 students would also graduate from the University of Lagos Business School.

Ogunsola explained that Tuesday’s ceremony covered the Faculties of Education, Communication and Media Studies, and Social Sciences, while degrees for other faculties would be conferred during subsequent sessions.

“These include the Faculties of Arts, Architecture, Creative Arts, Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical and Earth Sciences, as well as Computing and Informatics,” she said.

She announced that Mr. David Adebayo emerged as the best graduating student in the Faculty of Education with a CGPA of 4.92, adding that he also finished as a joint best graduating student in the sciences.

In the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Miss Tosin Odunewu recorded a CGPA of 4.89, while Miss Baki Adams topped the Faculty of Social Sciences with a CGPA of 4.85. Ogunsola also disclosed that Miss Stella Okeke emerged best in the Sandwich Programme with a CGPA of 4.91.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to members of the university’s Senate, staff, alumni, and partners for their continued support, reaffirming UNILAG’s commitment to enhancing facilities that promote learning, research, and innovation.

She revealed that several new buildings had been completed over the past year and would be commissioned in the coming months.

Ogunsola further advised graduands to prepare for life beyond the university, noting that rapid global changes and the rise of Artificial Intelligence were reshaping learning and work.

“The world is changing rapidly. Remain adaptable, resilient, and committed to lifelong learning,” she urged, encouraging the graduates to face the future with confidence.
