WATCH: LIBYA FOOTBALL FEDERATION RELEASES VIDEO OF MISTREATMENT IN NIGERIA

The Libya Football Federation has released a video documenting the mistreatment of their national team upon their arrival in Nigeria for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match. This release follows significant public outcry regarding the treatment of Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles.

The controversy began early Monday when images of the Super Eagles sleeping on benches went viral, prompting swift condemnation from Nigerian authorities. The situation escalated as players, pilots, and other personnel found themselves stranded at the Libyan airport for over 13 hours without access to basic necessities such as food, water, or a place to rest.

In light of these events, Nigeria has withdrawn from the scheduled 2025 AFCON qualifier and returned home. In response, the Libya Football Federation accused Nigeria of mistreating their team and threatened legal action.

In a statement, the Libyan Football Federation condemned the Nigerian Football Federation’s decision to forgo the match, emphasizing their intention to pursue all legal avenues to protect the interests of the Libyan national team. “The Libyan Football Federation condemns the measures taken by the Nigerian Football Federation by refusing to play the Libya-Nigeria match scheduled for Tuesday, October 15,” the statement read.

The LFF further asserted that the challenges faced by their team during the first leg should not be compared to the issues experienced by the Nigerian team. They highlighted their cooperation with the Confederation of African Football, noting, “The Libyan Federation provided humane conditions for the Nigeria-Libya match last Friday, despite the difficulties encountered.”

Additionally, they criticized the Nigerian Football Federation for a lack of cooperation regarding both legs of the match, stating that the circumstances the Libyan team endured were not comparable to the treatment received during the Nigerian leg.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football says it has launched an investigation into the incident after the Libya Football Federation alleged sabotage and threatened legal action against Nigeria.

In the meantime, the African Football governing body has delisted the Group D second-leg qualifier between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Mediterranean Knights of Libya.

The game was earlier scheduled to take place in Libya by 8 pm after the first leg took place in Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Friday.
