HAMZAT COMMENDS ROTARY, GEORGE CHARITABLE FOUNDATION FOR GBAGADA CHILDREN’S WARD RENOVATION

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat has commended the Rotary Club of Gbagada and the George Charitable Foundation for the renovation and expansion of the Children’s Ward at Gbagada General Hospital, Lagos.

Speaking on Tuesday as the Special Guest during the commissioning, he noted that the organisations’ gesture will further enhance quality healthcare delivery to the children and improve the quality of lives of Lagosians.

The Deputy Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin assured dignitaries that the government would continue to provide an enabling environment for organisations to operate and contribute immensely to the overall development of Lagos State and Nigeria.

He also appealed to the private sector and non-governmental organisations to emulate Rotary through collaboration with the State Government to improve the lives of the people.

The Chairman, Lagos Health Service Commission, Dr. Atinuke Onayiga thanked the George Charitable Foundation and Rotary for giving back to society in record time.

The President, Rotary Club of Gbagada, Rotn. Oluwabunmi Oguntade, in her welcome address, said her passion for children’s care informed her desire to reach out to the George Charitable Foundation for partnership on the project.

The Chairman, the George Charitable Foundation, Dr. Tein revealed that N30 million was expended on the project by his foundation and Rotary.

The District Governor of Rotary International District 9110, Nigeria, Rotn. Ifeayinwa Rita Ejezie said the renovated Children’s Ward was originally constructed 35 years ago by the Rotary Club of Gbagada and thereafter, each incoming President of the Club upgrades the facility annually.

She, however, requested for the government to use the Rotary platform to complement what is being done in areas of education, health, water and sanitation in communities.

The three-month general renovation of the ward included upgraded ceilings, floors, windows, lighting, paint, beds and provision of a child-friendly environment.
