The Nigerian Senate has issued a stern one-month ultimatum to the contractor overseeing the renovation of its chambers, demanding immediate rectification of persistent audio communication issues.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed his frustration during Tuesday’s plenary after his microphone failed during proceedings, prompting an outburst. Akpabio directed Senate Services Chairman, Sen. Karimi Sunday, to urgently coordinate with the contractor and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCDA) to ensure the installation meets international standards befitting one of Africa’s largest legislative bodies.

“We give them one month to provide a system that meets the needs of this chamber, or we will take further actions,” Akpabio declared, emphasizing that the renovations were crucial to support real-time interpretation in multiple languages for smoother proceedings, in line with global legislative practices.

The Senate’s firm stance signals that failure to comply will lead to swift and decisive consequences.
