SIX ARRESTED BY POLICE FOR VANDALISM IN JIGAWA
Six alleged vandals have been taken into custody by the Jigawa Police Command in the state’s Kazaure Local Government Area.
In a statement released in Dutse on Monday, SP Lawan Shiisu, the command’s public relations officer, confirmed the arrest.
According to Shiisu, a 30-year-old suspect was arrested for allegedly receiving stolen goods, while five of the suspects, who ranged in age from 28 to 53, were arrested for damage.
He clarified that two suspects were taken into custody on February 26 for allegedly damaging individual conduit service cables, armored cable wires, and a streetlight in the Bandutsi neighborhood of the LG.
Three further individuals were detained on February 28, he added, after reportedly planning to damage almost 2,000 meters of high-tension wire in the same LG’s Faru and Daba villages.
He claims that when being questioned, the suspects named Musa Yahaya, a 30-year-old resident of Kazaure town’s Wajen Gabas neighborhood, as a collaborator and the recipient of the stolen goods.
According to the command spokeswoman, Yahaya was aware that the cable cables were stolen and belonged to the government.
The suspects had allegedly confessed to the crime and were subsequently charged in court, he added.
