A Magistrate Court sitting in Bolade, Oshodi, on Friday sentenced a 52-year-old Nigerian returnee from Canada, Mr. Morufudeen Idowu, to three months in prison for illegally crossing the Ojota Expressway, resisting arrest, and assaulting an official of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) task force.
Mr. Idowu, who pleaded guilty to the charges when they were read to him in court, was convicted and immediately sentenced.
Reacting to the court’s decision, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, stressed that the state government will not condone any form of aggression or assault against its officials while performing their lawful duties.
Wahab affirmed the state’s commitment to protecting its operatives using the full weight of the law, regardless of the offender’s background or social standing.
He expressed hope that the conviction would serve as a strong deterrent, reinforcing that no individual is above the law in Lagos State.
