ALLEGED DEFAMATION: COURT GRANTS NATASHA BAIL ON FG’S FRESH CHARGE
By Mamood Umar
The Federal Government has charged Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The administration charged the female legislator on Monday with six allegations related to purported defamation of the Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator pleaded not guilty and Justice Mohammed Umar granted her bail on self-recognition.
The judge adjourned the case to September 22, 2025 for commencement of trial. In seeking bail, her attorney, Roland Otaru (SAN), had petitioned that she be afforded bail on self-recognition as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a distinguished member of the legal profession.
He contended that there was no opposing affidavit from the prosecution disputing the bail request. Senator Natasha was accompanied to the courthouse on Monday by her spouse, Emmanuel Uduaghan; Activist Aisha Yesufu; and her advocates.
