The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, officially commissioned the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Block Building and Abeokuta Street in Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos.

The commissioning ceremony which took place at the council secretariat, marked a significant milestone in the infrastructure development drive of the LCDA under the leadership of its outgoing Executive Chairman, Hon. Princess Olabisi Adebajo, who was celebrated for her numerous achievements in office.

Delivering his remarks at the event, the Deputy Governor commended the peaceful atmosphere of the community and lauded the Chairman’s dedication to grassroots development.

He emphasized the importance of the LCDAs created by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, especially in densely populated areas like Alimosho.

“I’m very proud as a member of APC. Mosan-Okunola is one of the 37 LCDAs created then. Alimosho’s population is almost the same size as Bayelsa State, yet they had eight LGs. That’s why we must be grateful to President Tinubu,” Dr. Hamzat stated.

“Local governments across Lagos are performing excellently—building schools, roads, PHCs, and administrative blocks. Some states can’t boast of such. I thank the Chairman for her silent service. She’s completed projects that weren’t even formally commissioned—people are just using them,” he added.

Earlier in her welcome address, Executive Chairman of Mosan-Okunola LCDA, Hon. Princess Olabisi Adebajo expressed gratitude to the state government for its support and reaffirmed her commitment to sustainable grassroots development.

She also used the occasion to highlight key projects completed under her administration.

These include major road constructions, school reconstructions, street lighting, ICT and office infrastructure, staff and resident welfare schemes, youth and women empowerment, and educational support for indigent students.

“This ultramodern administrative block stands as a legacy of our dedication to progress. We’ve equipped an ICT centre with over 30 computers, constructed and furnished an 8th Street ultramodern office complex, and empowered hundreds with tools like laptops, sewing machines, ovens, and more,” she said.

“Government is a continuum. I urge the people of Mosan-Okunola LCDA to support the incoming administration with love, cooperation, and prayer.

The future is bright,” Adebajo added, expressing heartfelt appreciation to President Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu, the Deputy Governor, her EXCO members, and the entire staff.

Community Reacts To Development

At the newly commissioned Abeokuta Street, residents expressed joy over the long-awaited project.

Speaking to Hotjist, Chief Olasoju Oluwatosin, Youth Leader of Okunola Kingdom, described the road as “a dream come true” after decades of neglect.

“I’ve lived in this community for over 45 years. This road was last graded when I was 10 years old. It’s never been motorable—until now,” he said.

“Thanks to the local and state governments. This is the true dividend of democracy.”

He urged residents to maintain the road and continue paying their land use charges and local taxes to help fund more development projects.

“We’ve even set up a youth committee to protect and preserve this road. It’s our heritage now,” he noted, adding that many landlords were absent from the commissioning, but the youth turned up in strong numbers.

The Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Block is expected to enhance administrative efficiency and service delivery within the LCDA, while the construction of Abeokuta Street will ease transportation and improve access for residents and businesses in the area.

The commissioning ceremony is part of ongoing efforts to improve public infrastructure and governance capacity across local councils in Lagos State.
