Two students from the Department of Science Laboratory Technology at Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area, have been abducted by gunmen, with one of the victims reportedly released after a ransom of N10 million was paid.

Sources said that the students were travelling in a Toyota saloon car to Asaba on Friday evening when they were double-crossed and taken by the assailants along the Polytechnic–Azagba Road at about 6:45 p.m.

The female victim, who was driving and is said to be married, was giving her classmate a lift when the attack occurred. She was reportedly released on Sunday after the ransom was paid, while the male student remains in captivity.

As of press time, the victim’s vehicle is parked at the Ogwashi-Uku Police Station.

When contacted, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, said he was not yet aware of the incident. “I am not aware of this,” Edafe stated.

The situation has heightened concerns over rising insecurity in the region, especially targeting students and commuters.
