EPL: TOTTENHAM’S FRANK EXCLUDES UNCOMMITTED PLAYERS AFTER EZE SNUB
BY OWOLABI OLUWADARA
Tottenham’s head coach, Thomas Frank, has expressed that the club is solely interested in acquiring players who are entirely dedicated to joining them, following the unsuccessful pursuit of Crystal Palace’s standout Eberechi Eze.
Eze had been on the verge of transferring to Spurs earlier this week; however, he is now poised to move to Arsenal in a £67.5 million agreement after the Gunners finalized terms with both the 27-year-old and Crystal Palace.
As reported by BBC Sports on Friday, the playmaker was excluded from Palace’s Europa Conference League victory over Fredrikstad on Thursday, indicating his forthcoming exit.
This marks the second setback for Spurs this summer, as Morgan Gibbs-White chose to extend his contract with Nottingham Forest after Tottenham activated a release clause in his previous agreement.
“In general, I do not wish to have any players who do not desire to join this club and represent this remarkable badge. We do not want them here, and I am certain the supporters share the same sentiment,” Frank stated.
Spurs, who triumphed over Burnley 3-0 on the inaugural weekend of the season, will visit Manchester City on Saturday at 12:30 PM BST.
With the transfer window scheduled to close on September 1, Frank remains optimistic about strengthening his squad.
“We are actively seeking enhancements for the team. We possess a solid squad and talented players; however, we must do everything possible to remain as competitive as we can. I am confident we will secure a player before the window concludes. Every club aspires to finalize signings promptly, but it is not always straightforward,” he emphasized.
Frank indicated that striker Richarlison, who scored twice in the victory against Burnley, is set to remain with the club.
The 28-year-old Brazilian had been associated with a potential transfer to Palace as part of a deal for Eze.
Arsenal is set to host Leeds United on Saturday at 5:30 PM BST, with Eze anticipated to undergo a medical with the Gunners over the weekend.
However, head coach Mikel Arteta remarked on Friday, “I have no comment to make. You know I cannot discuss a player who is not yet part of our group or club. “
