INEC REPORTS 37,169 UNCLAIMED PVCS IN BAUCHI
BY OWOLABI OLUWADARA
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 37,169 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) remain uncollected in Bauchi State.
The commission has also initiated the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process in anticipation of the 2027 general elections within the state.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, made this announcement during a press briefing on Friday in Bauchi.
Ibrahim voiced concerns regarding voter disengagement and insufficient registration, encouraging eligible citizens to take advantage of the opportunity to register or update their voter information.
He urged registered voters to obtain their PVCs to ensure comprehensive engagement in the democratic process.
“Bauchi State currently boasts 2,749,268 registered voters, distributed across 20 local government areas, 212 registration wards, and 5,423 polling units.
“INEC recommenced the CVR exercise with online pre-registration commencing on August 18, 2025, followed by physical registration starting on August 25, 2025, at designated centers throughout the state.
“This exercise will continue until August 30, 2026, operating from Monday to Friday, between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm, excluding public holidays,” he stated.
The REC detailed the services available during the CVR, which encompass new registration, correction of personal information, replacement of lost or damaged PVCs, transfer of registration, and collection of unclaimed PVCs.
According to Ibrahim, engaging in multiple registrations, registering underage individuals, and proxy collection of PVCs are electoral violations under the Electoral Act 2022, subject to significant penalties.
While reaffirming INEC’s dedication to a transparent, equitable, and inclusive registration process, Ibrahim urged eligible Nigerians to actively participate in the exercise.
