Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, have arrested a 37-year-old suspect in possession of 8,000 bottles of Akuskura, a herbal mixture suspected to contain dangerous substances, and 48 blocks of Cannabis sativa.

The NDLEA Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Maigatari, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the interception took place around Gadar Tamburawa along the Zaria–Kano Road.

According to Maigatari, the suspect was apprehended during the stop of a trailer conveying goods from Lagos to Maiduguri. The drugs were hidden between tricycles (Keke NAPEP) loaded on the trailer and beneath a wooden cover designed to conceal the exhibits.

“NDLEA operatives discovered the concealment through their diligence and commitment,” Maigatari said. He added that both the suspect and the seized items are in NDLEA custody pending further investigation and laboratory analysis.

The Commander of the Kano State Command, ACGN A.I. Ahmad, commended the support of NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), which he said enables field officers to act decisively.

The agency urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest NDLEA office.

The arrest comes amid NDLEA’s intensified nationwide crackdown on illicit substances. Within the last seven months, the agency has arrested 1,315 suspected drug traffickers, seized over 1.38 million kilograms of assorted drugs, and destroyed 43 cannabis farms covering 320 hectares across several state.
