‘I ALMOST QUIT MUSIC BEFORE HIT COLLABORATION WITH OMAH LAY’ – DAVIDO
By Sunmisola Shodayo
Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, widely recognized as Davido, has revealed that he was on the brink of departing from the music industry shortly before the unveiling of his chart-topping track “With You,” featuring Omah Lay.
In a now viral interview, the multiple award-winning musician admitted that he never anticipated the song to become the defining hit of his most recent album.
He indicated that the track’s remarkable success reignited his enthusiasm for music when he was considering taking a step back after over a decade in the profession.

Reflecting on his path, Davido acknowledged how uncommon it is for an artist to experience such a breakthrough at this stage of their career.
He characterized the timing of the hit as serendipitous, underscoring that it arrived precisely when he was poised to reduce his activity.
“Some artists get that kind of song at the start of their careers, others in the middle. For me, 13–14 years in, I was even thinking of bowing out. Then God blessed me with this song. It added more life to my journey,” he remarked.
