The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State has announced that no fewer than 18,045 new voters were registered between August and December 2025 under the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, disclosed this on Tuesday at a consultative meeting with leaders of political parties and representatives of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Akure, the state capital.

Babalola explained that the first phase of the CVR exercise commenced on August 25 and will end on December 10, 2025. She added that within the same period, 9,290 voters transferred their registrations within the state, while 2,353 corrections were processed.

According to her, the commission also addressed 3,725 cases of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), while 1,838 previously uncollected PVCs were retrieved by their owners.

She described the outcome of the exercise as a reflection of the collective commitment of all stakeholders to ensuring a peaceful, orderly, and successful voter registration process.

The INEC boss urged political party leaders to intensify voter education and sensitisation, especially among eligible youths and citizens yet to register.

“It is imperative to mobilise eligible youths and other citizens who have not yet registered to participate actively in the democratic process. Additionally, individuals who previously registered but have not yet collected their PVCs should be encouraged to do so,” she said.

Babalola reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to sustained collaboration with political parties to ensure the success of future electoral activities. She also commended CSOs for their consistent efforts in mobilising and educating the public throughout the CVR process.

On his part, the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in the state, Mr. Adesanya Olaoluwa, applauded INEC for the improvements recorded in the CVR exercise and called for increased participation by eligible voters.

Representatives of several political parties, including the PDP, APM, AAC, LP, YPP, AA, PRP, NNPP, APP, SDP, Accord, ADC, APGA, BOOT, and ADP, were present at the meeting.
