Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has strongly condemned the killing of over 40 people in a terrorist attack on Kasuwan-Daji Market in the Domo community of Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State. He called on the Federal Government to take urgent action to halt what he described as the alarming and growing normalisation of mass killings across the country, warning that failure to act risks further loss of lives and deepening insecurity nationwide.

In a post on X, the 2023 presidential candidate noted that the latest outbreak of violence reflects Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges as the new year begins.

Peter Obi described the recent terrorist attack in Niger State as part of a broader nationwide security crisis, pointing to a string of deadly incidents across several states in just a few days.

“It is deeply worrisome and unacceptable that, as we usher in a new year, the cycle of senseless killings continues unchecked across our nation,” Obi said. “In Niger State, over 40 lives were lost in a brutal attack at Kasuwan-Daji Market in the Domo community of Borgu LGA. In Plateau State, armed bandits struck Bong village in Doemak District, leaving multiple dead. Just days earlier, communities in Shanono LGA, Kano State, and the Unguwar Naino community in Katsina State were also attacked, with several lives lost and many injured.

“These incidents are part of a disturbing pattern of violence that has sadly become normalized. The repeated failure to provide basic security for citizens is a national shame. The protection of lives must remain the foremost responsibility of government.

“What Nigerians urgently need is an all-hands-on-deck approach: a coordinated, capable, and decisive effort to end the daily menace of insecurity,” he added.
