Police in Benue State have arrested 41 suspects in connection with alleged illegal slaughterhouses operating in Makurdi, the state capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing reports of the suspected slaughterhouses located on Awe Street in Wurukum, Makurdi.
The alleged slaughterhouses have been a trending topic on social media in the state for some time.
Interest in the case heightened after an unidentified individual, who claimed to have been abducted on December 25 while returning from a church programme near the International Market in Makurdi, shared their testimony online.
According to the victim, he boarded a motorcycle around 8:30 pm on the day in question, only to be taken to Awe Street.

He added that, in what felt like a hypnotic state induced by the motorcyclist, he was pushed into a room where he encountered about 10 girls.
“So, I followed them into a house. The place was dreadful, and I felt in my spirit that some kind of power or demonic presence was at work. When I hesitated to enter, one of the boys pushed me inside. Once we were in, they took me to a room where I found about 10 other young girls,” he recounted.
“One girl was standing naked and crying, so I asked what was happening and how she ended up there. I approached her and asked why she was unclothed. She said she had been brought there around 5:30 am while travelling to Ilorin, Kwara State, and needed to reach the park before 6:00 am.
“She had boarded a motorcycle, and the rider asked for a little time to pick up a parcel for a waybill. That’s how she ended up there. She even offered them N1 million to spare her life, but they refused,” the unidentified victim recounted.
Another person shared how his daughter was almost lured to the notorious street by a motorcyclist, but she managed to escape by making an excuse to get off the bike.
Responding to the allegations on social media, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) said, “I’m aware of this, and it has been forwarded for action. A raid of black spots was conducted at Awe Street, Wurukum, and Wadata, resulting in the arrest of 41 suspects for screening.”
