EDO POLICE ARREST BUS DRIVER OVER ALLEGED KILLING OF GIRLFRIEND

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old commercial bus driver, Osabohien Ogieva, in connection with the death of his 32-year-old girlfriend, Joy Jerome, in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, saying the lifeless body of the deceased was discovered on January 10, 2026, along a roadside near a river in Ikpe community.

According to Ikoedem, operatives of the Idogbo Police Division responded promptly to a distress call, evacuated the body to a hospital where she was confirmed dead, and subsequently deposited it at the mortuary.

She said investigations revealed that the deceased, who lived in the Upper Sakponba area of Benin City, was in a romantic relationship with the suspect.

“Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect, Osabohien Ogieva, who confessed that he had a disagreement with the deceased on January 9, 2026, while conveying her in his bus,” Ikoedem said.

Police alleged that after the disagreement, Ogieva abandoned Jerome’s body near a river in Ikpe community and went into hiding. He was also said to have later contacted the victim’s family, falsely claiming that he had not seen her for several days.

“The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old commercial bus driver for the alleged murder of his girlfriend,” the PPRO stated, adding that the suspect is currently in police custody.

She said Ogieva would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Meanwhile, the police also disclosed that the Kano State Police Command recently arrested three principal suspects in connection with the killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of Kano metropolis. The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out between the night of January 17 and the early hours of Sunday.
