The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, Mustapha Mohammad, for the unlawful possession of 954 suspected explosive materials, in an operation carried out by the Command’s Task Force on Illegal Mining.

According to a statement on Wednesday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the suspect was intercepted on January 27, 2026, while driving a Toyota Corolla. A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered the explosives, which were concealed in polyethylene bags.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the materials were intended for use by bandits as improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The suspect is currently in police custody, while the recovered items have been handed over to the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit for detailed analysis and safe keeping.

DSP Abubakar added that investigations are ongoing to trace the source, intended destination, and possible accomplices linked to the crime. “Further developments will be communicated as the investigation progresses,” he said.

The arrest follows a similar operation by the Oyo State Police Command on January 25, in which a truck carrying suspected explosive devices was intercepted in Saki, Oyo State.
