ABIA POLICE DENY BOMB DISCOVERY AT CHURCH IN ABA
By Aishat Momoh. O.

The Abia State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that a bomb or explosive device was recovered from the premises of the United Evangelical Church, Ehere/Umuola, Ogbor Hill area of Aba.
The clarification followed reports that church members, while digging around the parsonage fence for reconstruction, uncovered a large metal object suspected to be an explosive. It was alleged that the object was taken to a nearby borehole, prompting the priest in charge to raise an alarm.
However, the Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Mr Danladi Isa, in a statement issued on Tuesday through the Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, said investigations confirmed that no explosive was found at the location.
“I can authoritatively confirm that no bomb or explosive was recovered from the said area. Thorough investigations conducted through the Divisional Police Officer covering the area have affirmed this,” Isa said.
The police commissioner explained that the incident occurred during the adjustment of the church structure after it was discovered that the premises had encroached on a road currently undergoing reconstruction by the state government.
According to him, the church was directed to move back slightly to allow space for the road project, but failure to comply led to military intervention to enforce compliance.
“During the process, an iron rod, which formed part of a pillar of the church structure being adjusted, was removed by the military. There was nothing resembling a bomb or explosive recovered anywhere in Aba,” Isa added.
He assured residents that the police, as the lead internal security agency, remain vigilant and fully deployed across the state to protect lives and property.
