GUARDIOLA EXPRESSES BEING ‘HURT’ BY THE HUMAN SUFFERING IN GLOBAL CONFLICTS

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has pledged to continue speaking out on humanitarian issues, citing the “hurt” inflicted on victims of global conflicts.
Guardiola missed his press conference ahead of last weekend’s draw at Tottenham after delivering a speech in support of Palestinian children at a charity event in his hometown of Barcelona.
This is not the first time the Spaniard has addressed issues beyond football, and he insisted it would not be the last, despite suggestions that he should focus solely on the sport.
Ahead of City’s League Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle on Wednesday, Guardiola became emotional as he spoke about witnessing news footage of children being killed and injured in conflict zones worldwide.
Conflicts in Palestine, Ukraine, Sudan, and recent shootings by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have left Guardiola angry and determined to raise awareness of these humanitarian crises.
“Never, ever in the history of humanity have we had information so clearly in front of our eyes – genocide in Palestine, what happened in Ukraine, in Russia, all around the world, in Sudan, everywhere,” he told reporters.
“It’s a human problem. Who can see these images and not be affected? Today, we can see it. Before, we couldn’t. If it were the other way around, it would hurt me. Wanting harm for another country? It hurts me. Killing thousands of innocent people hurts me. It’s that simple.”
He added, “When you have an idea to defend and have to kill thousands of people, I will stand up. I will always be there.”
Guardiola emphasized that his stance is not political, but about defending human life wherever civilians are suffering.

“The people fleeing their countries, crossing seas on boats to escape danger — don’t ask if they’re right or wrong, rescue them. It’s about human beings,” he said.
“Protecting human life is what matters, not just in certain parts of the world, but everywhere. Despite our technological advances, humanity still kills itself. When I see those images, it hurts. That is why I will continue to speak up whenever I can, to help create a better society. From my point of view, justice means speaking out.”
