Cole Palmer netted a first-half hat-trick as Chelsea secured a 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Saturday, a result that also saw Liam Rosenior become the second English manager to win his first four Premier League matches.
Wolves’ problems began early in the contest. Within the opening 15 minutes, João Pedro was brought down in the penalty area by Matt Doherty, and Palmer stepped up to convert from the spot to give Chelsea the lead.
José Sá prevented the deficit from worsening with saves from Enzo Fernández and Malo Gusto, but Chelsea remained in control. The hosts’ situation deteriorated further when Yerson Mosquera committed another foul on Pedro inside the box. Palmer once again made no mistake from the penalty spot, registering his 50th goal in 100 competitive appearances for the Blues.
Just three minutes later, the England international completed his hat-trick, finishing from close range after connecting with Marc Cucurella’s cross to effectively put the game beyond Wolves’ reach before halftime.
After the break, Wolves showed signs of life despite having failed to score in their previous 10 home league matches. Mateus Mané struck the post with a curling effort, and debutant Adam Armstrong provided the assist for Tolu Arokodare, who reduced the deficit with a close-range finish to make it 3-1.
However, the hosts were unable to sustain the momentum or threaten a comeback. Pedro Neto squandered a late opportunity as Chelsea comfortably saw out the contest.
The win leaves Chelsea fifth on the Premier League table, just one point adrift of the final Champions League qualification spot. Wolves, meanwhile, remain deep in relegation trouble, having suffered 19 league defeats—only three fewer than Derby County’s record low for a Premier League season.
