TIMINI EGBUSON OPENS UP ON FATHER’S DEATH, REGRETS, AND PERSONAL GROWTH

Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has spoken candidly about the emotional challenges he faced at the start of 2026, including the death of his father, Samuel Oyindobra Egbuson, who passed away on January 1.
In a recent interview with Jay On Air, the actor described the loss as a deeply painful experience, noting that it was his first time losing a close family member. He admitted that grieving was particularly difficult due to the complex nature of his relationship with his father.
“On the 1st of January, I found out that I lost my dad. I really had to deal with this type of grief,” Egbuson said, adding that the experience forced him to confront emotional issues he had long ignored.
Reflecting on his personal life, the actor expressed regret over prioritising work over family and relationships. He revealed that one of his goals for 2026 was to become more emotionally available, admitting that his intense focus on his career had cost him meaningful connections.
“I prioritised work so much that I should have been more available,” he said.
Egbuson also spoke about his impact on the Nigerian film industry, asserting that he helped redefine the image of actors in Nollywood by bringing confidence and a modern sense of style to the screen.
“There was a certain way actors were back in the day, but then I came and made it look cool. I brought confidence and swagger. Whether they admit it or not, everybody is using my playbook,” he said.
The actor further opened up about a past romantic relationship, describing it as one of his biggest regrets. He disclosed that his former partner, whom he believes was his soulmate, is now married, and that the relationship ended largely because he failed to prioritise her emotional needs.
“All she wanted was for me to be present,” he said, adding that the experience taught him that financial success alone is not enough to sustain meaningful relationships.
Egbuson concluded by expressing his desire to build a family in the future, stressing that if given another chance, he would place his partner’s needs above everything else.
“She’ll be priority,” he said. “She is. She’ll be priority.”
