The Kogi State Police Command has urged residents of affected communities to fully comply with the temporary closure of selected markets and motor parks across parts of the state, particularly in Kogi West Senatorial District.

In a statement released on Sunday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Afusat, said the directive is part of ongoing security operations conducted in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser and other security agencies.

“In line with the Executive Order and directive of the Kogi State Government on temporary security measures, the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Kankarofi, has advised residents of affected communities to comply fully with the order,” the statement read.

The temporary closure affects selected markets and motor parks in Lokoja, Kabba-Bunu, Yagba West, Yagba East, Kogi, and Mopamuro Local Government Areas. Residents are advised to plan their activities accordingly, as compliance will be closely monitored.

CP Kankarofi thanked residents for their patience and cooperation and reassured the public of the command’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property. He also urged residents to remain law-abiding and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency control room at 0703 832 9084 and 0815 219 5982.

The Commissioner reiterated the command’s dedication to maintaining peace and security across the state and called for ongoing cooperation from the public.

The directive comes amid recent security concerns in Kogi and other north-central states. The media reported on Friday that the Kogi State Police Command arrested eight suspected criminals during coordinated bush-combing operations across the state. The suspects are being questioned in connection with criminal activities, with some believed to be informants aiding kidnapping syndicates.

Separately, in Kwara State, 75 residents were confirmed killed in a terrorist attack in Woro Village, Kaiama Local Government Area, with over 160 others reportedly affected.
