Thomas Tuchel has signed a new contract to remain head coach of the England national football team until the conclusion of Euro 2028 in the UK and Ireland, the Football Association (FA) confirmed on Thursday.

Tuchel, 52, was appointed as Gareth Southgate’s successor in October 2024 and has since overseen an unbeaten qualification campaign for the 2026 World Cup in North America, with England winning all eight of their group matches under his leadership.

“I am very happy and proud to extend my time with England,” Tuchel said. “It is no secret to anyone that I have loved every minute so far of working with my players and coaches, and I cannot wait to lead them to the World Cup. It is an incredible opportunity and we are going to do our very best to make the country proud.”

The FA stated that the new agreement provides “clarity and full focus” on preparing the team for the World Cup.

Previously, Tuchel had been linked with a permanent managerial role at Manchester United following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, despite improved performances under caretaker Michael Carrick. By committing to England, Tuchel appears to have ruled out a post-World Cup move to Old Trafford.
