Former Senate President Ahmed Lawan has distributed 17,000 bags of rice, millet, and sugar to residents of Yobe State, in an effort to support Muslims during the Ramadan fasting period.
The distribution took place on Sunday in Nguru Local Government Area and was organised through the Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan Foundation.
Speaking at the event, Lawan, represented by the National Secretary of the Tinubu House-to-House Network, Bashir Nguru, said the initiative was “aimed at supporting the Muslim community to observe the holy month of Ramadan with ease.”

He added that the 17,000 bags would be evenly distributed across the state’s 17 local government areas, with each area receiving 1,000 bags of rice, sugar, and millet. The items are set to benefit APC stakeholders, party supporters, and vulnerable residents.
“This gesture demonstrates my commitment to always stand with my people, in both joyful and challenging times,” Lawan said.
He noted that the intervention would enable vulnerable groups to focus on their religious duties during Ramadan and complements the efforts of the Federal Government and the Yobe State Government in alleviating citizens’ hardships.
Speaking on behalf of the Yobe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Auwalu Dan-Kwayo said, “We appreciate the former Senate President for this initiative. These palliatives will help ease the economic hardship faced by ordinary citizens, especially during the month of Ramadan.”
