The Nigerian Air Force has announced that one of its senior officers, Group Captain A.O. Akinuli, has clinched double honours at the 2026 Scientific Conference of the West African College of Surgeons (WACS), describing the feat as a testament to the Service’s growing professional excellence.

The conference, organised under the Faculty of Dental Surgery, was held in Accra, Ghana, from February 8 to 12, 2026.

In a statement posted on its official X handle on Monday, the Air Force said Group Captain Akinuli, a specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery trained with NAF support, distinguished himself in the 2025 Fellowship Examinations.

According to the statement, his performance earned him two prestigious awards: the Prof Olayinka Otuyemi Prize for Best Dissertation Candidate in the 2025 Fellowship Examinations at first attempt, and the Prof Emmanuel Oladapo-Adekeye Prize for the Best Dissertation in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

The NAF noted that the achievement reflects its deliberate investment in human capacity development, advanced professional training, and academic excellence.

Linking the milestone to its leadership vision, the Service said the accomplishment aligns with the command philosophy of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, which prioritises continuous learning, competence, and mission-focused professionalism.

The Air Force emphasised that the recognition goes beyond personal success, projecting the institution as one that nurtures innovation, scholarship, and professional distinction.

It added that the development underscores NAF’s sustained commitment to specialised education and training, positioning the Service not only as a key player in national security but also as a contributor to medical excellence within the West African sub-region.
