11 FEARED DEAD AS FUEL TANKER RAMS VEHICLES AT SANGO OTA TOLL GATE

At least 11 people are feared dead following a severe accident early Tuesday morning when a fuel tanker lost control due to brake failure and crashed into multiple vehicles at the Sango Ota toll gate.

The crash, which occured around 7:00 a.m. in the busy commercial hub, threw the area into chaos, leaving traders and commuters in stunned disbelief.

Witnesses said the fully loaded fuel tanker lost control while descending the Sango hill, veering off the road and colliding with stationary vehicles and pedestrians.

Emergency responders, including teams from the Federal Road Safety Corps, police, and other agencies, quickly arrived at the scene. Despite their efforts, 11 people were killed, and several others sustained injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care.

The Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the crash. Rescue teams have been working to evacuate victims, recover bodies, and clear the wreckage to restore traffic along the busy Lagos-Abeokuta corridor.

The Sango Ota toll gate has long been known as a high-risk area for accidents, especially involving heavy-duty vehicles navigating the steep descent into town. Authorities have repeatedly warned about the dangers posed by the area’s traffic conditions.

As of press time, the identities of the victims had not been released, and authorities are working to inform their families.
