Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended President Bola Tinubu and All Progressives Congress (APC) governors for approving ₦8 billion in aid for victims of the Singer Market fire in Kano.
In a statement on Monday, issued by his spokesperson Sunusi Tofa, the governor expressed deep appreciation for what he called a “major intervention” for the affected traders.
“The support includes ₦5 billion from the Federal Government and ₦3 billion from APC governors nationwide,” Yusuf said.
Describing the assistance as “timely and compassionate,” the governor added that the funds would help alleviate the devastating impact of the fire on traders and their families.
He noted that the intervention reflected President Tinubu’s commitment to Nigerians “especially during times of distress and national emergencies,” while also praising APC governors for demonstrating “unity and shared responsibility.”
Yusuf assured that the funds would be “used transparently for the reconstruction of affected shops and the provision of direct assistance to genuine victims of the disaster.”

The aid was announced by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a condolence visit to Singer Market, where he conveyed the Federal Government’s support to those impacted by the fire.
The weekend fire razed goods and properties valued at billions of naira, leaving hundreds of traders in distress.
Market leaders estimated that over 1,000 businesses were impacted, with many traders reporting substantial financial losses.
One affected trader, Isa Abubakar, revealed that he lost goods worth more than ₦200 million, describing the incident as devastating.
Authorities later traced the incident to a solar battery explosion, as emergency responders and fire service personnel worked to bring the blaze under control.
The Kano State Government had previously appealed for immediate federal support and modern firefighting equipment to help prevent similar disasters in the future.
