NIGERIANS TO RECEIVE UK eVISAS STARTING FEBRUARY 25

Starting February 25, 2026, Nigerian travellers to the United Kingdom will receive electronic visas (eVisas) instead of traditional physical visa stickers.
The Senior Communications Officer at the British High Commission in Abuja, Onyinye Madu, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday.
“From 25 February 2026, all Nigerian nationals applying for a UK Visit visa will receive an eVisa, rather than a vignette (sticker) in their passports,” the statement read.
According to the commission, under the new system, successful applicants will access their visas electronically via a UK Visas and Immigration account, signaling a move toward a fully digital visa process.
The commission clarified that the requirements for Nigerian applicants remain the same, stating: “Travellers will continue to apply online, visit a Visa Application Centre to provide biometric information, and meet all existing eligibility criteria.”

The only change, it noted, is the visa format. Instead of a physical sticker, applicants will now receive a secure digital record of their immigration status.
It further assured that Nigerians with existing valid vignette stickers do not need to take any action, as their current visas will remain valid until expiration or when a replacement is needed.
Emphasizing the advantages of the new system, the commission said, “The move to eVisas brings a number of benefits for Nigerian travellers. Passports will be returned more quickly, and travellers can manage their immigration status online anytime, from anywhere. The digital format also provides enhanced security, as eVisas cannot be lost, stolen, or tampered with.”
Commenting on the update, the British Deputy High Commissioner in Abuja, Mrs Gill Lever, noted that the transition would simplify the visa process for travellers.
“We are committed to making it easier for Nigerians to travel to the UK. Moving to digital visas will streamline a key part of the process, making it more secure and reducing reliance on paper documents. We look forward to continuing to welcome Nigerian visitors, students, and workers to the UK,” she said.
The statement added that once a visa application is approved, applicants will need to create a free UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account to access their eVisa.
