Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, on Thursday, approved a reduction in official working hours for public servants in observance of the ongoing Ramadan and Lent fasting periods.
Announcing the decision, the governor said the adjustment was designed to ease the burden on workers during the fasting season. He added that the revised work schedule would take effect from Thursday, February 19, 2026.
The directive was conveyed through a circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, dated February 19, 2026.
The circular, titled ‘Closure of Work During Ramadan and Lent Fasting Periods,’ stated: “As part of the welfare packages of the State Government for its workforce, the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Sen. (Dr.) Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, has graciously approved that public servants should close work by 2pm from Mondays to Thursdays, and 1pm on Fridays, during the ongoing Ramadan and Lent seasons only.
“This gesture of the Governor is to enable public servants have sufficient time to pray for the existing peace and tranquillity in the state to continue unhindered, more so as the gubernatorial election is holding in the state this year.
“However, those on essential services, especially medical personnel, are excluded from this arrangement in view of the life-saving nature of their duties.”
The governor subsequently directed political office holders, accounting officers across Ministries, Departments and Agencies, heads of non-ministerial agencies, as well as officials in local government areas and Local Council Development Authorities, to comply fully with the directive and ensure wide dissemination of the circular among staff.
