The Kaduna State Police Command has recorded significant gains in its crackdown on banditry and the proliferation of illegal arms, killing several suspected bandits and recovering at least 30 firearms during coordinated operations across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, disclosed this at a press briefing in Kaduna on Monday, outlining achievements made over the past two weeks. He explained that the raids were part of sustained, intelligence-led offensives targeting bandit camps and criminal hideouts in Kajuru, Tafa, Igabi and Kauru local government areas.

According to him, security operatives engaged the suspects in intense gun battles, dislodging several camps. Some of the bandits were neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. Several suspected criminals were arrested, including five alleged gunrunners, and a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered.

Items seized include three English-made AK-47 rifles, 21 locally fabricated firearms, one SMG rifle, two English-made pistols and four locally made pistols. A substantial quantity of hard drugs believed to have been supplied to criminal groups was also confiscated.

In a related operation, officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested Adamu Aminu in Jaji Town, Igabi LGA, on February 20. He was allegedly found with six fabricated AK-47 rifles, three fabricated revolver rifles, two fabricated pistols and seven English-made AK-47 magazines. Police said preliminary investigations suggest he was involved in the illegal manufacture and supply of arms within and beyond the state.

Another suspect, Abubakar Hassan from Jos North LGA in Plateau State, was also arrested in connection with the case. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to dismantle the syndicate and trace the distribution network of the recovered weapons.

Similarly, three suspects were intercepted in Kasuwan Magani on February 17 over an alleged illegal arms deal. The individuals—Peter Pama, Saleh Monday and Sunday Makama—were reportedly found with a locally made AK-47 rifle and a pump-action shotgun.

Muhammad said the successes highlight the command’s commitment to proactive, intelligence-driven policing and its resolve to disrupt the supply chain of illegal arms fueling violent crime. He also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his leadership and strategic direction.
