Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has commended the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, for his distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation, following President Bola Tinubu’s acceptance of his resignation.
Governor Abiodun also congratulated the acting IGP, Mr Tunji Disu, expressing confidence in his ability to provide focused, results-driven leadership during a critical period for the country’s security.
In a statement personally signed by the governor and released to journalists on Wednesday, Abiodun described Egbetokun as “a proud son of Ogun State whose decades of dedication, professionalism, and commitment to enhancing internal security remain a source of pride for Ogun indigenes and all Nigerians.”
He praised the former IGP for his “selfless service” and wished him well as he attends to pressing family matters.
While congratulating Disu, Governor Abiodun urged the new police chief “to focus on intelligence-driven policing, improved welfare for officers, stronger community engagement, and enhanced inter-agency collaboration to tackle crime effectively across the country.”
He added that “restoring public confidence in the Force, deepening professionalism, leveraging technology for crime detection, and reinforcing internal discipline should be central to the new IGP’s leadership agenda.”
Abiodun also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to bolster national security, strengthen institutions, and ensure that the Nigeria Police Force remains professional, accountable, and effective in fulfilling its constitutional duties.
