The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Malam Shehu Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over a fatal crash along the Keffi–Abuja Highway that claimed seven lives.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the FRSC spokesman, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps Marshal conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the repose of the victims.

Describing the incident as “painful and devastating,” Mohammed stressed that no loss of life on the nation’s highways is acceptable.

Preliminary reports indicate that a lone vehicle, allegedly driven at excessive speed, lost control and veered into the opposite lane, resulting in a fatal collision at Angwan Jarmi along the Keffi–Abuja corridor.

He disclosed that FRSC rescue teams were promptly mobilised following distress alerts but met heightened tension upon arrival. Commercial motorcyclists were reportedly among those involved, and the unrest escalated into a mob attack on the Keffi Unit Command.

While acknowledging the depth of public emotion that often follows fatal road crashes, Mohammed ordered a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the incident, including allegations of possible patrol-related factors.

“The Corps will not be hasty in apportioning blame nor dismissive of public concerns. Any personnel found to have acted outside established operational standards will be held accountable in line with regulations,” he stated.

The Corps Marshal commended the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army for swiftly restoring calm and preventing further breakdown of order, noting that their prompt intervention safeguarded lives and property.

He appealed for calm and urged the public to allow due process, warning that violence against rescue and enforcement personnel undermines efforts to protect lives.

Mohammed reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to professionalism, fairness and transparency as investigations into the crash continue.
