MOIS TOASTMASTERS CLUB HOSTS INTERNATIONAL SPEECH, EVALUATION CONTESTS

In furtherance of its resolve to enhance the public speaking capabilities of Public Affairs Officers, the Ministry of Information and Strategy’s Toastmasters Club hosted its International Speech and Evaluation Contests on Tuesday at the Ministry’s Conference room with the theme “Love Beyond Words”.
In her opening remarks, the Area Director of Division D, District 130, TM Funmi Omotoso welcomed participants and guests to the contests, emphasising that the event is the heartbeat of the Toastmasters Club’s educational programmes, hence it is a platform for growth.
She congratulated the contestants for their confidence and courage to compete while wishing the Evaluators clarity.
On his part, the Contest Chair and English Doctor, TM Craig Esohwode said “Participating in contests allows Toastmasters members to learn and recognise the best among others. Therefore, this is not a regular club meeting but a competitive speaking engagement”. Additionally, the Chief Judge for the contests, TM Modupe Badiru reiterated that all contestants were properly briefed to ensure excellence.
Thereafter, the Speech and Evaluation Contests commenced with four speakers: TM Babatunde Olubajo – a Principal Public Affairs Officer who delivered a speech titled: “The Journey” detailing how he developed his love and passion for football”. Next was TM Babatunde Omisore – An Assistant Chief Public Affairs Officer with a speech titled: “Love Beyond Words”.
The third speaker was TM Bukola Bakare – also an Assistant Chief Public Affairs Officer and current Club Secretary, who delivered the speech titled: “Love, Music and Expression”, recalling how music shaped her belief in love while the last speaker, TM Kikelomo Oduyebo – An Assistant Director (Public Affairs) with a speech titled: “Push Until Something Happens”.
The duo of TM Remi Oladiende – Chief Public Affairs Officer and TM Aduragbemi Ogundeko – Senior Public Affairs Officer, respectively, competed as Speech Evaluators while a Bonus Test Speaker and one of the Club’s sponsors, TM Rasaq Odejayi, delivered a speech titled:
“Listen Beyond the Ears”, harping on the importance of listening as a lifelong nugget.
At the end of both contests, TM Bukola Bakare emerged the Best Speaker and will subsequently represent the Ministry of Information and Strategy’s Toastmasters Club at the District Level while TM Aduragbemi Ogundeko was announced first place winner of the Evaluation Contest.
Delivering his closing remarks, the Charter President and Director of Strategy Centre, TM Kayode Oyekanmi, thanked the Area Director, TM Funmi Omotoso; Contest Chair. TM Craig Esohwode; the Chief Judge, TM Modupe Badiru, sponsors and guests, noting that the expectations of the contests were met,
“We will strive to sustain the momentum going forward and continue to harness the opportunities the Toastmasters platform offers us, as Public Affairs Officers”, he concluded.
The high point of the day was the presentation of Certificates to all participants.
