The high court in Oyo state, located in Ibadan, has confirmed the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which happened in the state on November 15, 2025.

As reported by the press, Ladiran Akintola, who was the presiding judge, gave the decision on Friday in a case brought by Folahan Malomo Adelabi.

The judge granted the reliefs sought by Adelabi, through his counsel, Musbau Adetunmbi.

Respondents in the suit filed in November 2025 are PDP; Umar Damagum, the national chairman; and Umar Fintiri, governor of Adamawa state; and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Adelabi had asked the court for an interim injunction restraining the defendants from “truncating, frustrating, the Guidelines, Timetable and Schedule of Activity and/or disrupting, preventing and or stopping the conduct of the Scheduled National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) fixed for the 15th and 16th November, 2025 at Ibadan to elect officers of the said party at national pending the hearing and determination of motion on notice”.

The applicant also sought an order directing PDP, Damagum and Fintiri to “adhere to and honour the provisions of the aforesaid Guidelines, timetable and Schedule of Activities for the conduct of the National Convention pending the hearing and determination of motion on notice”.

On November 4, 2025, the Oyo court ordered the PDP to proceed with the conduct of the national convention.

Some days before the convention, conflicting court orders were issued pertaining to the national convention.

On October 31, 2025, the federal high court in Abuja stopped the PDP from going ahead with the convention.

On November 11, 2025, Peter Lifu, a judge at the federal high court in Abuja, restrained the PDP from holding the national convention.

During the convention, 20 NWC members were elected including Turaki (national chairman), Hamza Akuyan Koshe (deputy national chairman —north), Daniel Ambrose Woye (deputy national chairman —south), and Arapaja Taofeek Gbola-Oladejo (national secretary).

In January, the  federal high court in Ibadan nullified the PDP national convention.

In a ruling, Uche Agomoh, the presiding judge, barred the party’s national officers elected during the national convention from parading themselves as the party’s leadership.
