Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano have arrested 56 suspects during an intensive operation targeting multiple drug points across the state.

The raids, conducted between 6th and 8th February 2026, focused on known drug hotspots in Kofar Mata, Fagge, Kasuwar Rimi, Medile, Badawa, and Sabon Gari, where operatives dismantled illicit drug outlets both within and outside the Kano metropolis.

According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, Sadiq Muhammad, the operation was part of the ongoing “Operation Ramadan Mubarak” initiative. Officers recovered a range of illegal substances, including cannabis sativa, Exhol‑5, diazepam, and pregabalin, along with various drug-related paraphernalia.

Muhammad said the seizures deal a significant blow to local drug supply networks and demonstrate the command’s resolve to eliminate dangerous substances from circulation.

He added, “As a continuation of previous enforcement efforts, NDLEA operatives conducted coordinated raids on identified hotspots, maintaining pressure on criminal networks that have long operated in these areas. The operation aimed to disrupt distribution channels and restore safety to neighborhoods affected by drug-related activities.

“During the raids, various exhibits, including cannabis sativa, Exhol‑5, diazepam, and pregabalin, were recovered. These seizures mark a major setback for local supply chains and reaffirm the command’s commitment to removing illicit drugs from circulation.”

Among those apprehended was 30-year-old Yunusa Yasin of Badawa, arrested in connection with an alleged homicide that occurred five years ago. He has been handed over to the police for further investigation and any necessary legal proceedings.

The NDLEA reiterated its commitment to achieving a drug-free Kano under the leadership of Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), promising to continue targeted operations and community engagement to protect public health and safety.

Muhammad called on members of the public to provide information on individuals and locations involved in illicit drug activities to help the agency maintain its gains and ensure community safety.
