The Oyo State Police Command on Wednesday arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered several stolen items and cash during a stop-and-search operation in the General Gas area of Akobo in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The Command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan, identifying the suspects as Abiodun Michael, Olaoluwa Pamole, and Ahmed Ismail, while another suspect, Lamidi, is currently at large.

According to Ayanlade, police operatives on patrol intercepted a suspect riding a motorcycle in the General Gas area of Akobo. The suspect, later identified as Abiodun Michael, reportedly attempted to flee upon sighting the officers but was quickly pursued and arrested.

During interrogation, Michael allegedly confessed to participating in robbery operations with three accomplices—Pamole, Ismail, and Lamidi—targeting unsuspecting members of the public at gunpoint around the Toll Gate and Egbeda areas of Ibadan.

The police spokesperson noted that investigations revealed the suspect had been on the police radar for some time and was known to operate along the borders of Lagos State, Ogun State, and Oyo State, engaging in armed robbery activities.

Acting on the information, a team of operatives, alongside officers from the Command Monitoring Unit and led by the Divisional Police Officer of the Akobo Division, stormed the suspects’ meeting point at Access Hotel located at Sawmill, Onipepeye area of Iwo Road, Ibadan.

At the location, Pamole and Ismail were arrested, while Lamidi managed to escape and is currently being sought by the police.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of one Magnum pump-action gun with six live cartridges, multiple mobile phones—including several iPhones, Tecno devices, Redmi phones, and a Samsung Galaxy S10—as well as other items such as a Wi-Fi device, power bank, Oraimo radio, four wristwatches, and ₦130,000 cash.

The suspects also reportedly confessed to being involved in the snatching of a Honda car in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, has directed that the case be transferred to the Command Monitoring Unit for further investigation and prosecution.

He also ordered that the fleeing suspect be apprehended to face the full weight of the law.

The Command commended the swift response and professionalism of the operatives whose efforts led to the arrests and recovery of the stolen items.

It also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, for his leadership in strengthening proactive policing nationwide.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station. The Command also called on members of the public who may have recently lost valuables to robbery in the Egbeda and Toll Gate areas to visit the Command Monitoring Unit to identify and claim recovered items after proper verification.
