The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Federal Fire Service (FFS) has placed its personnel on high alert, declaring a “no holiday” policy for firefighters to ensure the safety of lives and property during the Eid-il-Fitr celebrations.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SF Anyam Barnabas.
The Controller of the FCT Command, Mohammed Suleiman Anas, stressed that as an essential service provider, the FFS remains fully operational regardless of public holidays.
At a pre-festive briefing with station commanders, Anas directed that all stations maintain full personnel strength and ensure that fire trucks and rescue equipment are in optimal condition for rapid response.
He reiterated that the Service does not observe holidays due to the nature of its responsibilities, maintaining round-the-clock readiness to handle emergencies across the FCT.
“The Service provides essential services and, therefore, does not go on holidays,” Anas stated, assuring residents of the command’s preparedness to respond swiftly to any emergency.
While congratulating Muslim faithful on the successful completion of Ramadan, the Controller warned that festive periods often come with increased fire risks.
He advised residents to be vigilant and adhere to basic fire safety practices. “Turn off electrical equipment when leaving the house, do not leave cooking unattended, and avoid fireworks, among others,” he said.
Anas also urged residents to keep emergency contact numbers readily accessible.
In case of fire or related emergencies, members of the public are advised to contact the FCT Command on 08032003557.
