OLUBADAN OF IBADANLAND IDENTIFIES LAND GRABBING AS MAJOR CHALLENGE

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja has identified land grabbing as the most pressing challenge confronting residents and indigenes of the historic city.
Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, made the statement at his Ondo Street, Bodija residence in Ibadan on Friday while speaking to journalists who visited for this year’s Eid-Fitri celebrations.
He told reporters that land grabbing has become a long-standing problem in the city, undermining both social and economic development over the years.

On measures to address the issue, Ladoja said he has directed village heads (Baales) and other land custodians not to tolerate any form of land grabbing in their communities. Local security agencies have also been instructed to intervene whenever such cases arise.
Regarding security concerns, the Olubadan affirmed that all relevant authorities are working together to tackle challenges in the city. He emphasized that recent kidnapping incidents are not linked to Fulani herdsmen but are criminal attempts to extort money from residents.
“As you mentioned, we thought this was a problem for the North. These criminals are simply targeting people for ransom. It has nothing to do with Fulani or any other group,” Ladoja said.
He added: “Residents now know that in Ibadanland, we are in control of the situation. While some cases occur, they are promptly addressed. For example, in Oluyole Local Government Area, three of the suspected kidnappers were arrested, showing that we are on top of security matters.
“The real challenge in Ibadan is not kidnapping—it is land grabbing. Investors face the problem of acquiring land only to find someone claiming it. That is why we have instructed Baales to strictly oversee their domains, and we are mobilizing local vigilantes to support these efforts.”
