The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority has dismissed claims that compensation for tenants and property owners affected in the Ojo area involves inducement, stressing that all payments adhere to Lagos State Government-approved policies.
In a post on X on Friday, the authority stated: “LAMATA firmly rejects any suggestion of inducement. All compensation payments are strictly guided by Lagos State Government-approved policies designed to ensure fairness and support relocation.”
The agency noted that Lagos State is the only subnational government in Nigeria that provides such compensation, citing examples from both the Red Line and Blue Line projects.

It added that property valuations for acquisition are based on “Replacement Cost,” in line with international standards.
LAMATA also reiterated that the land in question was lawfully acquired for overriding public interest to support a vital rail infrastructure project.
“The land has been lawfully acquired for overriding public interest to support a critical rail project that will transport thousands of commuters daily, improve mobility, stimulate economic activity, and enhance quality of life along the Marina–Okokomaiko–Agbara corridor,” the statement read.
The Blue Line is set to integrate with the proposed Purple Line at the Volkswagen axis, further improving connectivity across Lagos.
“As a public institution guided by due process and international best practices, LAMATA operates strictly within the law,” the authority concluded.
